Keynote: Mike Muller, VP Crude Trading & Supply, Shell Trading

Michael Muller joined Shell 27 years ago after graduating from Cambridge University. He has served on the Global Leadership Team of Shell’s trading division since 1999. Better known to colleagues as Mike, he is the VP Crude Trading managing a business that handles more than 8 million barrels of crude per day. In this role, he oversees a global team of trading, supply and risk management professionals spread across 10 offices including major oil trading hubs such as Houston and London. In prior roles he managed the Atlantic Basin Crude Oil Trading and Supply business, Shell’s North Sea, Futures, Swaps and Options Trading business, and led Shell’s Global Chemical Feedstock Trading Business. In the 1990s he managed Shell’s Trading and Supply team in Melbourne and was then posted to Singapore to establish a cross-business development presence in South East Asia. Michael is based in London. He is married and has a daughter.

Robert heads up coverage of global oil products markets. Prior to joining Energy Aspects, Robert worked as an energy journalist for nearly 14 years for Reuters, Petroleum Argus and other publications, where he reported on oil markets and trends from Latin America, London, and New York in addition to temporary assignments worldwide. Most recently he was Oil Markets Columnist at Reuters. Robert holds an MA from McMaster University and a BA from McGill University and is based in New York.

Broad experience from leading positions in the Oil and Gas business over 25 years. CEO upstream experience from Norway and Brazil, as well as extensive experience in M&A, Corporate finance, and Governmental relations. Been responsible for change management processes and providing new strategic direction for Government, National companies, private and listed companies in Norway and abroad. Responsible for the acquisition of the Peregrino field with Norsk Hydro in Brazil in 2005, for setting up the organization who delivered the field development plan, and had it approved by the Brazilian authorities in 2007. The project was at that time the largest project worldwide for Norsk Hydro. The project was included in Statoil at the time of the merger in 2008. Worked internationally in UK and Brasil over the last 9 years. Have previously been in the following positions :
• CEO in Panoro Energy and SINTEF do Brasil
• SVP in Statoil and Norsk Hydro
• CFO in Norsk Hydro
• Assistant director general in the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in Norway
Fidel Farias

Fidel Farias is an Economist from the University of Potsdam in Germany. He holds a post graduate degree in Economics of Financial Markets. Currently, he is an Energy Market Consultant at the Corporate Planning Department of PDVSA. He is responsible for cash flow analysis and oil price forecast, oil market analysis for the Venezuelan OPEC officials, monitoring of Venezuelan crude oil production, market studies for Venezuelan crude oil and products, analyzing development of financial markets and their relationship with the world economic growth amongst others.
Fidel Farias is specialized in the international energy market, providing industry players and new comers with information on Mergers & Acquisition and Joint Ventures opportunities and strategies. He is also focused on Corporate Finance issues such as financing strategies (including Project Finance), economic evaluation of projects and valuation of companies and assets.
His main research areas include: monetary theory and policy, international economics, macroeconomics, interactions between monetary and fiscal policies, financial contagion, crude price formation and volatility, energy markets and economics of financial markets and volatility transmission between oil and financial markets.

Nelson Queiroz Tanure - Director of Projects. Joined the firm in 2014. He led the acquisition of a relevant participation in PetroRio and actively participated on the company complete turnaround. Previously, he worked at Docas Investimentos where he led the takeover and subsequent restructurings of GPC Participacoes and Intelig Telecom as well as acquisitions of other small regional telecom providers. Mr. Tanure holds a degree in Economics from Boston College/IBMEC

Francisco Xavier Salazar Diez de Sollano is a founding partner of Enix, SC, a consulting firm specialized in regulation for the energy sector. Since March of 2016 he is also the Coordinator of the International Confederation of Regulators (ICER).

In 2016, Mr. Salazar was appointed as the first “Institute of the Americas Regional Energy Integration Non-Resident Fellow” and an executive fellow at the School of Publix Policy of the University of Calgary. From 2015 until January of 2017, he was the Chair of the Mexican Chapter of the World Energy Council (WEC).

Before that, from 2005 to 2015, he served as Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) time during which he was an active promoter of the energy reform in Mexico. In 2006 he was elected as Vice-President of the Ibero-American Energy Regulators Association (ARIAE), and from 2011 to 2015 he was the Chair of the same association. Prior to being a regulator, he served as a Chairman of the Energy Committee at the Chamber of Deputies. He also was involved in the Chemical Sector for several years.

Mr. Salazar holds an MSc in Public Financial Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi, and Diploma studies in Law and Economics from Universities in Mexico and the United Kingdom. He has taught courses on Public Finance and Monetary Economics at local universities in San Luis Potosi, and written on the use of economic instruments in environmental public policy, as well as on energy policy and regulation. Mr. Salazar has also participated as member of editorial boards from major newspapers and business magazines in Mexico.

Margarita Esterman is an Executive Director of Grupo Medanito and VP of FLARGENT, a company of same group for technological process solutions for the oil and gas business.

She is a Chemical Engineer from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, with post grades in Oil and Gas Treatment and Processing from US universities. She holds a post graduate degree in High Corporate Management from Universidad Austral (Argentina).

Her technical expertise is related to the upstream, midstream and refining processes of oil and gas, having had leading positions in engineering and construction projects throughout Argentina and Latin America. She also normally lectures, chairs or moderates important congresses and seminars worldwide, being her last and important appointment the Presidency of the Technical Committee and membership of the Organizing Committee at the last biannual international congress Argentina Oil & Gas.

Her present largest responsibility today is related to Business Development in Argentina and other countries of Latin America.

Peter Keavey, Managing Director and Global Head of Crude and Refined Energy Products, CME Group 

Peter serves as Managing Director and Global Head of Crude and Refined Energy Products at CME Group. He is responsible for managing CME Group’s existing suite of energy products, including crude oil, refined products, natural gas, power, natural gas liquids, coal and renewables. In his current role, Keavey also works closely with customers to lead development and execution of new risk management tools for the energy industry.

Keavey has 27 years of experience in the futures and options industry, including 15 years as a trader of physical and financial Energy products across the natural gas and crude oil and refined product markets.

Prior to joining CME Group in 2013, Keavey was a Portfolio Manager at Graham Capital Management, focusing on energy markets. He served as Managing Director and Head of Energy Trading at Scotia Capital from 2008-2011, and has held various commodity trading positions for Enron Corporation, Societe Generale and Lehman Brothers. 

He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business.

Chandra Dev Singh has over twenty-one years of professional experience in Oil & Gas Sector, predominantly in Trading and Energy Risk Management. He leads a team which is responsible for hedging of refinery margins (GRM), freight, bunkers and outright petroleum products like Naphtha, Fuel Oil, precious metal and structured product solutions to industrial and commercial sectors. He is having exhaustive knowledge of financial risks, hedge accounting standards, OTC energy market compliance and regulations as well as hands-on experience in the field of Market and Credit Risk Management, “Energy Trading and Risk Management, (ETRM)” application, precious metal and also providing structured product solutions to industrial and commercial sectors. In order to hedge intelligently and effectively, He constantly keeps informed on global crude oil and products fundamentals, technical and short and long term refinery margins outlook. He interacts a lot with technical experts, oil trade analysts and heads of market research all over the World.

Mr Singh holds a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, India and a Master’s degree in Financial Management from Jamanalal Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, India. He is also a certified “Energy Risk Professional (ERP)” from Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) Inc., New Jersey, USA.

He has been invited as a speaker on the subjects of Crude Oil, Petroleum Products, Downstream, LNG, “Energy Trading and Risk Management” applications and Risk Management in many international conferences in Hong Kong, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Brisbane, Geneva, Rio de Janeiro and London.

Felipe Mello

Graduated in Production Engineering from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Is the General Manager of Investor Relations at Prumo Logística since 2011. Previously, he served as IR Manager at Cosan SA Industria e Comercio, where he had the opportunity to participate in the entire process of company diversification and entry into the logistics and distribution market of fuels. Prior to joining Cosan, he worked for 12 years at Banco BBM occupying various positions in the areas of Sales, Product Structuring and Sales at branches in Brazil and abroad.
Roland van Assche
Roland van Assche, Commercial Director, Port of Rotterdam International

Roland holds a Master’s degree from the University Utrecht in The Netherlands and completed the International Executive Programme at IMD in Lausanne. He started his career at Damen Schelde Shipbuilding as a management trainee. From 1996 until 2002 Roland joined Arthur Andersen where he became Manager Business Consulting. Part of his work was being responsible for different strategic and financial projects in the Energy & Utility sector.

Roland started in 2002 at the Port of Rotterdam Authority as senior project manager. At the 1st of February 2008 the board of the Port of Rotterdam Authority appointed him to become director of the commercial department for the liquid bulk cargo. In this role, he was responsible for acquisition, business development, business analysis and account management. As of, January 1
st, 2017, Roland became Commercial Director for Port of Rotterdam International and is, amongst others, closely involved with its joint venture in Brazil, Porto Central.

Jaime Brito

VP Pricing and Market Strategies, Argus

Jaime joined Argus in January 2013 after spending almost 10 years with PFC Energy. Prior to that Jaime worked at Aspentech and PMI Comercio Internacional. Jaime has plenty of experience on the oil sector, especially on market fundamentals, refining economics, forecasting and refining modeling as well commercial strategies for crude or product trade. Jaime has completed projects around the world that vary from feasibility of new refineries to sales of crude pipelines to trading strategies for NOCs and IOCs. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering and a MBA.
