Chile LNG expansion still under study: AES
Santiago, 14 March (Argus) — AES Gener, the Latin American subsidiary of US utility AES, says it continues to evaluate whether it will participate in the second expansion of the Quintero LNG terminal in central Chile.
"The timeframes to take this decision have not yet expired and they depend on the process of the second expansion of capacity of this terminal," AES Gener said.
The generator was responding to an Argus report published yesterday indicating that AES would pull out of the $250mn expansion project. The project would proceed regardless of AES' decision, with one new offtaker, Chilean generator Colbun.
"AES Gener will continue to analyze its options and will take a final decision in the time frames established by the Quintero Open Season," the company said.
The terminal shareholders, led by Spain's Enagas, are scheduled to make a final investment decision at the end of April or early May.
