US FERC approves Nexus gas line construction
Houston, 11 October (Argus) — Federal regulators today authorized the developers of the 1.5 Bcf/d (42mn m³/d) Nexus natural gas pipeline project to begin construction on the line.
The $2.1bn Nexus project, jointly owned by Enbridge and Michigan utility DTE Energy, is designed to deliver natural gas from the Appalachian shale region to Ohio, Michigan and Ontario, Canada.
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said it granted the developer's request to begin constructing the line with a few exceptions. Nexus must provide more information on construction taking place at a couple of scenic trails along the pipeline route, and must also provide additional information on a few specialized construction techniques, including horizontal directional drilling.
The project received a key water permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency in September, even after that agency raised concerns following a drilling fluid spill from a different pipeline developer in the state.
Nexus is expected to come on line in the second quarter of 2018.
