US steel mill shipments steady in January
Houston, 9 March (Argus) — US steel mill shipments were little changed in January from a year earlier.
Steel mills in the US shipped 7.6mn short tons (st) (6.9mn metric tonnes) of steel in January, compared to 7.7mn st in the prior-year period, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Shipments rose by 4pc from December on increased activity across the three major flat-rolled sheet products.
Hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip shipments rose by 11pc from December, while cold-rolled sheet shipments climbed by 9pc and hot-rolled sheet increased by 3pc.
