South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has won orders to build two new 174,000m³ LNG carriers, the firm said today.

Deliveries of the two vessels will begin in the second half of 2022, HHI said. HHI did not disclose the names of the companies that ordered the vessels.

The vessels may be part of a batch of Shell-related orders announced last week. HHI won orders for six new 174,000m³ LNG carries, which were set to be operated under charter agreements with Shell. Shell signed a total of eight charter agreements for new LNG carriers last week.

The contracts for the two new carriers were valued at around $376mn in total, HHI said. The tankers will be constructed at the HHI shipyard in Ulsan, the firm said.
