Iran's oil minister Javad Owji is in a stable condition after having been admitted to a government hospital in Tehran following a heart attack earlier today.

According to Iran's oil ministry, Owji was admitted after feeling symptoms of the attack while on the sidelines of a government meeting. The ministry said the cause of the heart attack was stress from work.

But Owji's "physical condition is now stable and he is in good health," the ministry said.

An oil and gas industry veteran, Owji has been in the position since August 2021.

Owji's heart attack comes just one week after the passing of a former Iranian oil minister, Rostam Qasemi, after a long battle with illness. Qasemi was oil minister between August 2011 and August 2013.
