Emergency crews are responding to an explosion and fire near Alvin, Texas, near Ineos' Chocolate Bayou petrochemicals site.

Crews are responding to the fire near the FM2004 and Chocolate Bayou, Alvin emergency management coordinator Ron Schmitz told Argus.

It is not clear whether the explosion and subsequent fire is in the Ineos plant or a pipeline outside the facility walls, Schmitz said.

Crews were yet to reach the fire as of 3:06pm ET and crews began responding to the incident some time after 2:30pm ET.

Ineos' Chocolate Bayou site is home to two 930,000 metric tonne (t)/yr mixed-feed crackers. The site uses that ethylene to produce 462,000 t/yr of alpha olefins.
