Steel Dynamics restarts Texas steel mill
Electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker Steel Dynamics (SDI) has restarted the hot end at its Sinton, Texas, mill.
The steelmaker restarted the mill on 28 July after it idled its EAF on 1 July after it suffered issues with its caster shear. The 3mn short ton/yr mill had been operating at 52pc in the second quarter, chief executive Mark Millett said on 20 July, and produced 390,000st of steel during the quarter.
The outage was expected to cost the mill 50,000-70,000st of shipments in the third quarter, chief financial officer Theresa Wagler said.
The mill's value-added cold rolled and galvanizing lines continued to run during the EAF outage.
