ArcelorMittal Tubular Products (AMTP) Europe is stopping production at its Krakow welded tube facility in the first quarter of 2024, the company said in a note to customers obtained by Argus.
"In response to the evolving market context and our commitment to reducing our carbon imprint, we have made the strategic decision to cease tube operations at our Krakow production facility. This move is part of our broader initiative to align our business practices with sustainability goals, contributing to a more environmentally-responsible future", the note said.
Krakow supplied construction, water distribution and scaffolding industries.
The company said it is working to minimise any supply disruption and will be supplying from its other production units. AMTP produces longitudinally welded tubes for industrial applications in its plant in Iasi, Romania. It also has facilities in Czech Republic and France.
ArcelorMittal recently said it would hot idle the coke ovens at its Krakow site because of low demand and the low spread between coking coal and coke prices.
