State-owned urea producer Qatar Energy announced plans to build a new urea production complex by 2030, doubling its urea production capacity to 12.4mn t/yr.

The producer is planning to build three additional ammonia production lines which would supply feedstock to the four new urea production trains in Mesaieed. This would double Qatar Energy's annual urea output of 6mn t/yr, and potentially position Qatar as the world's largest urea exporter, Qatar's energy minister and QE chief executive, Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, said. Production from the project's first urea train is expected by 2030.
