Dow plans to restart one of its two Louisiana petrochemical plants next week, but the restart timing at the second facility is uncertain because infrastructure was damaged by Hurricane Ida.

Dow's Louisiana sites in Plaquemine and Taft were preemptively shut down before the storm made landfall in the state on 29 August, and the company said both facilities escaped major damage.

In Plaquemine, Dow expects to restart operations next week, contingent on the restoration of utilities. The Plaquemine manufacturing site has 1.247mn metric tonnes (t)/yr of ethylene capacity and also produces polyethylene and other derivatives.

The company could not say when it plans to restart operations at Taft, as the area lacks functioning infrastructure after the storm. The Taft site has 1mn t/yr of ethylene capacity and produces polyethylene and other derivatives.

Dow's Taft facility and Shell's Norco site are in St. Charles Parish, was one of the areas hit hardest by the storm.

Shell has not said when it plans to restart Norco operations, which has 1.27 mn t/yr of ethylene capacity. The company this week said the storm cut power to the site and caused some building damage.
