The 774MW coal-fired Moorburg B plant is scheduled to start commercial operations this weekend, Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall confirmed today.
The commercial start-up of Moorburg B has been delayed several times because of technical problems, most recently from December to the end of this month.
The unit was first synchronised to the German grid at the end of February last year. The plant has since been operated in test mode, apart from a three-month period from April-July when testing was suspended to repair damage to welded seams near heating surface tubes.
Vattenfall is commissioning two new hard-coal fired plants at the Moorburg site, with unit A, also with a capacity of 774MW, feeding power into the German grid for the first time on 29 January.
Moorburg A is expected to start commercial operations this summer.
