Indonesia's Samarinda anchorage has implemented tariffs for pilotage and tug assist services on 17 February at 00:01 local time (17:01 GMT, 16 February).

This came after an agreement between port company Pelabuhan Tiga Bersaudara and the branch committee of the Indonesian National Shipowners Association.

Tariffs will be charged a minimum of two hours each way going in and out of the anchorage, and have separate structures for Indonesian-flagged vessels and foreign-flagged vessels. Tariffs for tug assist services have two components, a fixed tariff and a variable tariff. For example, a foreign-flagged 82,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) Kamsarmax vessel that is about 43,000 gross tonnage (GT), will be charged a fixed tariff of $2,442/hour, and a variable tariff of $0.0372/GT for each hour. The tariff incurred for tug assist services for the Kamsarmax moving in and out of the anchorage for a minimum of four hours would be $16,166.40.

Pilotage tariffs also have two components, a fixed tariff and a variable tariff. Using the same foreign-flagged Kamsarmax vessel, the fixed tariff will be $131.35 for each vessel movement, and a variable tariff will be $0.0557/GT for each vessel movement. The pilotage tariff subsequently incurred for the vessel moving in and out of the anchorage would be $5,052.90.

So the total additional cost for the Kamsarmax performing a cargo operation at Samarinda would be $21,219.30.
