Nirva leads the Maritime Decarbonisation portfolio for BHP where she manages their decarbonisation strategy and operationalizes sustainability initiatives such as launch of world’s first LNG fuelled Newcastlemax, market stimulation for biofuels and other alternate future fuels in Asia and most recently wind assisted propulsion installation. In addition, she is also actively involved in maritime ecosystem partnerships such as Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation, Global Maritime Forum’s green corridor for Iron Ore and First Movers Coalition for shipping to create an enabling environment within the maritime community for driving emissions abatement and uplifting the industry to higher standards of sustainability. Prior to BHP, Nirva was a senior consultant at McKinsey & Company working with Mining, Maritime and Energy sector clients across Asia Pacific to drive large scale transformations for operational improvement and bottom-line impact.

Clarence Woo

Mr Clarence Woo has been involved in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry for the past 32 years. He started his career with Mobil Oil Singapore where he handled various responsibilities including technical services, which provided technical expertise and training in the field of lubricants, fuels, and LPG. Mr Woo worked at Ethyl Corporation as Senior Area Manager managing petroleum additive sales to various countries in Asia Pacific. He also served as a Product Manager, Fuel Additives, where he helped managed fuel additive sales and fuel additive developments in Asia. Mr Woo is currently the Executive Director of the Asian Clean Fuels Association, which supports governments and encourages industries to pursue the use of cleaner fuels for a cleaner environment through the attributes of sound science, cost effectiveness and sustainability.

Shutong studied and worked in the Netherlands for nine years. He graduated from VU University Amsterdam and has a Master’s degree in environment and energy management studies. He started his biofuel career in SkyNRG in 2012, then worked at Argos energis (now Varoenergy) as the Asian Business Development Manager. He was the first person to export Chinese UCO, and also brought ISCC to the Chinese market. In 2015, Shutong moved back to China and founded MotionECO, aiming to build a reliable, tradable and sustainable biofuel and feedstock supply chain. MotionECO has its own collection network, and track and trace applications. Shutong is awarded as Forbes China 30 under 30 and winner of UNEP sustainable challenge etc.

Rachel Shin
Researcher, Solutions for Our Climate

Rachel Eunbi Shin is a researcher at SFOC, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable solutions for climate change. She holds an MBA from INSEAD France and a B.B.A. in Marine Transportation. Previously, as the Singapore representative for the Korea Shipbuilding Industry Cooperative, she facilitated overseas sales for Korean shipyards. At SFOC, Rachel authored a report on LNG ships and the role of Korean public financiers in the LNG midstream sector, combining her expertise in maritime transport, energy, and sustainable finance.

Catherine Caulfield

Catherine is responsible for coordinating Argus’ business development strategy for base oils, marine fuels and bitumen. For base oils, her role involves engaging with market participants to explain the benefits of using Argus base oil spot prices to facilitate risk management. From London, she works closely with the global editorial team to develop awareness and understanding of Argus Base Oils in global markets. Prior to her current role, Catherine was responsible for European base oils market coverage at Argus: contributing spot prices, market commentary and analysis to Argus’ weekly global base oils report. Catherine holds an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience from the University of Aberdeen and a BA in Natural Sciences from Trinity College Dublin.

Mahua Chakravarty

Mahua Chakravarty has worked with Argus since 2013 and is the Asia Pacific editor for marine fuels. She was leading the bitumen desk for the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East markets from Oct 2020 to May 2023. Prior to this, she also co-led the Asian petrochemicals desk within Argus, covering aromatics, methanol, polymers and olefins. She has more than 20 years’ experience working as a journalist and editor with various publications in Singapore and India.
