BASF-Total reported flaring at its 2.4bn lb/yr ethylene plant in Port Arthur, Texas to state regulators yesterday.
A packing follower failed during planned maintenance to repair a valve, resulting in de-pressuring to the flare system, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The event resulted in the flaring of an estimated 51,031 lb of ethylene, among other materials.
