Chinese exports of urea rose to 1.96m tonnes in the first quarter of 2014, a 140pc increase on the same period of 2013. March exports were a record 651,000t, with 120,000t loaded for the US, 90,000t for India and 77,000t for Mexico.
Exports are benefiting from the relaxation of the export tax to 15pc + CNY 40/t from 77pc last year and are on course to exceed 10m tonnes for the first time in 2014.
Forecasts of overall exports for 2014 are in the range 10-10.5m tonnes. Exports in 2013 were a record 8.3m tonnes.
