Japan Polypropylene began joint operation of polypropylene (PP) compound producer Mytex Polymer Thailand today, with Rayong-based refiner IRPC.
Japan Polypropylene in March transferred 50pc of its wholly-owned subsidiary Mytex Polymer Thailand to IRPC for an undisclosed value. The company now owns 50pc of Mytex Polymer Thailand, while IRPC owns the rest. Japan Polypropylene and IRPC plan to enhance their competitiveness in the southeast Asian auto market.
Mytex Polymer Thailand has PP compound production capacity of 15,000 t/yr in Bankok.
Japan Polypropylene owns around 220,000 t/yr production capacity of PP compound overseas, and 1mn t/yr of capacity within Japan.
Japan Polypropylene has been attempting to optimise its PP production facilities and to put greater emphasis on developing functional PP, including those for automobiles.
