The BASF and Total olefins complex in Port Arthur, Texas began maintenance on a leaking exchanger yesterday after benzene was discovered in the cooling tower, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Work on the unit is expected to last through 25 April and may result in ongoing benzene emissions of 500 lb per day, according to the report.
