India is launching an anti-dumping investigation into imports of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) originating from China.
The investigation by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry was initiated by Indian company Covestro, which claimed that the imported TPU products originating from, or imported from China, are causing harm to the domestic industry.
The surveyed product range includes polyester-type TPU and polyether-type TPU. The products investigated this time do not include polycaprolactone-type TPUs.
The dumping investigation period of this case is from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023, while the injury investigation periods are from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020, from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 and from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 and the dumping investigation period.
TPU is one of the largest applications for methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) in China, used in the manufacture of cushions, car seats and footwear as well as adhesives and sealants.
Market participants have not yet commented on the impact of this case on the Chinese MDI market.
