The cold mill at integrated steelmaker US Steel's Mon Valley mill in Pennsylvania is running at reduced rates after a maintenance outage.
The company confirmed it took a 14-day outage that lasted through the end of October at its Irvin plant, a part of the Mon Valley mill south of Pittsburgh. A portion of the outage was to upgrade electrical drives in the cold mill.
US Steel is now commissioning the electrical drive, which means the cold mill is running at reduced rates.
The company said it has a backlog of fourth quarter orders and is working with customers to meet their needs.
A service center reported that US Steel is three to four weeks late in delivering substrate to galvanized coaters in the region.
The Argus cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) coil ex-works assessments are up by 28pc and 30pc, respectively, since hitting lows on the year around the end of September. CRC prices are at $1,100/short ton (st) while HDG prices are at $1,120/st.
