Western Canada-based metals recycler ABC Recycling has reestablished a US footprint with the acquisition of Burlington, Washington-based Skagit River Steel and Recycling.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, which was finalized on 30 June.
Skagit River Steel is a full-service ferrous and nonferrous metals recycling facility with a rail spur and around 35 full-time employees.
Processing activities at the site include shearing, baling, torch cutting and car crushing. The company also handles a wide array of other recycled materials including paper products, batteries, plastics, and glass, as well as fully staffed new steel service center with light fabrication capabilities.
Operations will be overseen by Andy Anthony, ABC Recycling's vice president of US operations, while Todd Reynolds will remain the general manager.
The acquisition underscores ABC's commitment to maintain and continue growing its US presence in the Pacific Northwest following its mutual decision to exit from its deep-sea lease with the Port of Bellingham and its subsequent withdrawal of a corresponding shredder project in the area.
