Americas Styrenics announced today it will lower the price of all grades of polystyrene by 2¢/lb effective 1 November.
The decrease will mark the third consecutive month of lower polystyrene prices.
While the company did not give a reason for the price reduction, it is likely based on lower feedstock benzene prices. Spot benzene prices traded as low as 372¢/USG for prompt October ddp Houston yesterday.
Some buyers said they have been expecting at least a 3¢/lb reduction for the month, based on recent declines in benzene.
In mid-October, assessed prices for crystal polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene stood at 160.5¢/lb and 171.5¢/lb, respectively, for delivery east of the Rockies.
