Formosa reported emissions at its Point Comfort, Texas olefins 1 unit yesterday following the unexpected shutdown of propylene and ethylene refrigeration compressors, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The two compressors tripped due to unknown causes and resulted in the vapors normally collected in those systems to be vented to the flare for destruction. The incident resulted in emissions of butadiene, benzene, ethylene, propylene, toluene and other materials, according to the filing. The flaring is expected to last through 1:45 p.m. today.
