Several methanol producers and consumers from a variety of downstream sectors have negotiated monthly contracts for methanol supply since February 2022.

The Argus Methanol insight paper explains that aside from managing price volatility, other drivers for monthly methanol contracts include interest in closer alignment with pricing structures in the Americas and Asia-Pacific in an increasingly globalised supply chain, as well as the development of downstream applications such as methanol-to-olefins (MTO), which have brought exposure to the fast-paced pricing of crude oil markets.
