Naval forces of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have thwarted an attempt by the US to confiscate Iranian crude in the Gulf of Oman, Iran's state news broadcaster IRIB reported today.
"In this action, the US temporarily confiscated a tanker that was carrying oil for export in the Gulf of Oman and transfer the oil cargo onboard to another tanker that was headed for an unknown destination," IRIB said, without disclosing when this happened.
The IRGC helped to take control of that second tanker and directed it back towards Iranian waters, IRIB said. Repeated attempts by the US forces to reclaim and block that tanker's path "using several helicopters and warships" failed, it said.
Iran says the tanker carrying the crude is now in its territorial waters.
The US Navy has not made comment as of publication.
