Brazil added 17MW of thermal power to its electricity generation capacity in August, according to regulator Aneel.
This is a 70pc increase from July, when Brazil added 10MW in thermal capacity to its electricity grid.
More than 97pc of the additions to generation capacity came from wind and solar plants, which added 462.8MW and 744.7MW, respectively. The country also added 14MW from small hydroelectric plants.
With the additions, Brazil's total generation capacity reached 195.6GW.
