Brazil's power load increased by 6.2pc in September from a year earlier, as higher temperatures drove up air conditioning usage.
Power demand was recorded at an average of 68,306MW during the month, compared with 64,319MW in the same period last year, according to preliminary data from power clearinghouse CCEE.
Energy consumption among bilateral contract clients rose by 3.5pc from a year earlier, while regulated market clients — residential and small and medium business consumers — increased their demand by 8.2pc on the year.
The commercial sector accounted for the biggest power consumption increase in the free market, with 15pc more power demand than in the previous year, followed by the service and transportation sectors' 11pc increase.
Hydro generation increased by 5.2pc from a year earlier, while thermoelectric plants generated 3.3pc less electricity.
Solar power increased by 57pc, while wind plants generated 0.1pc more energy than a year earlier.
