Swiss-based packaging company Amcor will offtake flexible recycled polyethylene (rPE) from Canadian-based Nova Chemicals upon the completion of its US recycled plastic facility.
The offtake agreement will allow Amcor to purchase flexible rPE in 2025, when Nova's mechanical recycling facility in Connersville, Indiana, is expected to begin production.
The Connersville plant will produce 113mn lbs/yr of post-consumer flexible rPE. Nova previously stated that most of the feedstock for the facility will come from flexible plastic deposit boxes and from retail stores.
Amcor has a corporate goal to use 30pc recycled material in its packaging by 2030, and said that the agreement would help it reach its goal.
